Establishment of a Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre

We are funding a recovery centre for women who have experienced family, domestic or sexual violence.

If you, or someone you know, need urgent help, please see our list of support organisations and services.

About the initiative

We are funding the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre to establish and operate a Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre. Services will run for 5 years from 2022–23 in the Illawarra region. This initiative is part of a range of measures under the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022–2032.

Why it is important

Violence against women and children is a problem of epidemic proportions in Australia. The plan recognises that victim-survivors of violence must be able to access support for their recovery and healing beyond the crisis response. This will help them achieve long-term improvements to their health and wellbeing.

Goals

The Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre aims to improve long-term health and psychosocial outcomes for women and families impacted by family, domestic and sexual violence.

Meeting our goals

The Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre will provide services that:

  • are individualised, multidisciplinary and multisectoral
  • address the impacts of family, domestic and sexual violence.

Who we work with

The Illawarra Women’s Health Centre will establish and operate the Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre.

Status

The Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre is expected to start providing services in the 2023–24 financial year.
