What is the AN-ACC daily basic subsidy
The AN-ACC daily basic subsidy has 2 components:
- The Base Care Tariff (BCT or fixed component)
- AN-ACC classification (variable component).
An initial entry adjustment payment is also payable each time a permanent resident enters residential aged care.
Base Care Tariff (BCT or fixed) subsidy
The BCT subsidy covers care-related costs that don’t vary much with individual residents or small changes in occupancy. Instead, these costs reflect the overall needs of the home based on location and specialisation.
See section 3 of the AN-ACC guide for more information.
Also see funding for homes with specialised status, including for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
AN-ACC classification (variable) subsidy
Under AN-ACC, there are :
- 13 AN-ACC funding classes for permanent residents including a special class for planned admissions for palliative care.
- 3 respite funding classes for respite residents.
See section 4 of the AN-ACC guide for more information.
Residential care funding assessments
Each permanent and respite resident receives an independent assessment. This assesses their care needs so an appropriate funding class can be assigned to determine the amount of variable care funding you get.
For new permanent aged care residents, a referral to an assessment organisation will be triggered when you create the entry record in the Services Australia Aged Care Provider Portal.
New respite residents will generally be assigned an AN-ACC respite class at the time they are assessed for eligibility for aged care services through an assessment organisation.
Default rates
You will receive a default AN-ACC variable subsidy rate during the period between entry and when an assessment is completed.
Once the resident is assigned an AN-ACC class, the subsidy for the actual classification will replace any default subsidy paid up to that time.
Any difference between the actual and default subsidy will be adjusted through the Services Australia payment system.
The default rates are equal to AN-ACC:
- Class 8 subsidy for permanent (non-palliative) residents.
- Class 1 subsidy for permanent residents being admitted for the purpose of planned palliative care.
- Class 102 subsidy for respite residents without an assigned AN-ACC class.
Other payments
Providers may also receive other supplements for residential aged care on behalf of eligible residents.
