29 July 2025 - This program supports flexible ways of providing care where mainstream services cannot meet needs. It currently funds 2 innovative projects that focus on younger people with disabilities. The program stopped funding new projects in 2006.

4 March 2024 - Health practitioners must meet certain requirements to bill for Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items under Medicare or prescribe subsidised medicines. Pathology and diagnostic imaging services must meet accreditation standards to access Medicare.

14 October 2025 - We recognise that most non-compliance is accidental, and we work with providers to resolve issues and promote good compliance practices. Find out more about our current activities.

9 October 2025 - Providers can ask people in government-subsidised residential respite care to pay some fees. These fees are different from what you can charge for permanent (ongoing) residential care.

23 October 2024 - Medicare subsidises a large number of health services and products. You can use your Medicare card to access medical services, hospital services for public patients, surgical services, prescription medicines, eye tests, pathology tests, imaging and scans.

21 August 2024 - The Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Review examined Australia’s current HTA system, including its policy and methods. It worked with stakeholders to identify features that are working effectively and those that are acting as barriers to access.
