We have issued requests for medical device level data from the medical technology industry, to assist the Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) to recalculate the Weighted Average Price (WAP) for 2022/23.
This activity is part of the Prostheses List Reforms; and required under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on 14 March 2022, between the then Minister for Health and Aged Care and the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA).
Requests for data were sent in August 2023 through industry bodies (AusBiotech and MTAA) as well as directly to organisations via email.
If your organisation has device(s) listed on Part A of the Prescribed List and has not received a request for data, or requires clarification around the request, please contact us at your earliest convenience.
The provision of this data will be critical for IHACPA to recalculate the WAP for the 2022/23 FY. This recalculated WAP will inform the third and last 20 percent benefit reduction of the difference between the PL benefit and the WAP, scheduled for 1 July 2024. This activity will help align the price set for medical devices on the PL with those paid in competitive markets such as the public hospital system.
The data is required by 31 October 2023. Any delays in providing it may lead to IHACPA relying on data collected for the 2021/22 FY (e.g. manufacturer sales data).
