The third and final reduction of benefits for medical devices (except for cardiac implantable electronic devices) of Part A of the Prescribed List is scheduled for 1 July 2024.
To assist stakeholders in preparing their systems with the adjusted benefits, we have published an indicative interim Prescribed List. This Prescribed List reflects the final 20% benefit reduction to medical devices on Part A, and the second 20% benefit reduction to the device component of the cardiac implantable electronic devices benefit. The indicative interim Prescribed List does not include changes resulting from completion of Prescribed List applications.
The Private Health Insurance (Medical Devices and Human Tissue Products) Rules will be made in the second half of June 2024. The Rules will give effect to all changes resulting from completion of the Prescribed List applications (new, amendment, deletion and sponsors’ transfers) and other changes. We will issue a PHI circular when the Rules are made and registered on the Federal Register of Legislation.
Reduction of benefits for medical devices is a Prescribed List Reform measure; and required under the Memorandum of Understanding with the Medical Technology Association of Australia. For more information on benefit reductions visit the protheses list reforms.
