The Private Health Insurance (Health Insurance Business) Amendment Rules (No. 1) 2022 (the Amendment Rules) amend the:

  • Private Health Insurance (Health Insurance Business) Rules 2018 (the Business Rules).

The Amendment Rules amend the Business Rules to continue to exclude from the definition of hospital treatment the 40 reinstated temporary Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items for specialist telehealth and phone services performed by the admitting medical practitioner or admitting dental practitioner for private patients admitted to hospital.

The Amendment Rules were registered on the Federal Register of Legislation on 17 January 2022 and are taken to have commenced on 1 January 2022, consistent with the commencement of the instrument reinstating the 40 temporary MBS items.
