National Nursing and Midwifery Education Advisory Network

The National Nursing and Midwifery Education Advisory Network (NNMEAN) works with us and the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer. The NNMEAN gives advice on nursing and midwifery education and workforce issues.

Role

Formed as a committee in 2015, the National Nursing and Midwifery Education Advisory Network’s (NNMEAN) role is to give high-level strategic advice to health ministers.

It uses an evidence-based approach to plan and manage education, employment and immigration for nurses and midwives in Australia. This includes:

  • registered nurses (RNs)
  • enrolled nurses (ENs)
  • midwives.

The NNMEAN works with us and with the Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Reference Group (NMSRG) to give advice on:

  • education of nurses and midwives to meet the health needs of the Australian community
  • factors effecting nurses and midwives entering the workforce
  • how entry and development pathways can shape future careers
  • national supply and demand workforce reports
  • health workforce reports to inform policy advice and strategy
  • specific requests by health ministers.
