Role

IPAG’s role is to work in partnership with the Australian Government to monitor and review the Implementation Plan for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan 2013–2023 (the implementation plan).

Members have agreed that the cultural determinants and social determinants of health are key priorities to acknowledge in the refresh of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan.

Membership of IPAG includes representatives from the:

  • National Health Leadership Forum (NHLF)
  • National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO)
  • Australian Government Department of Health
  • National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA)
  • National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Standing Committee (NATSIHSC) of the Australian Health Ministers Advisory Council (AHMAC)
  • Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW).

IPAG also includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experts on early childhood, comprehensive primary care, health research and acute care.

Meetings

IPAG usually meets face-to-face at least twice a year in Canberra. They may hold additional meetings by teleconference, as needed. Meeting papers and agendas are considered in confidence.

Related committees or groups

A Health Plan Working Group has been established to lead the development of the refreshed National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan. This working group includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health experts and reports to IPAG.
