Strategies
The National Palliative Care Strategy 2018
The National Palliative Care Strategy is our plan to make sure you get the highest level of palliative care. We developed this strategy with help from everyone who provides your palliative care services.
Our Implementation Plan for the National Palliative Care Strategy will help us improve palliative care services for all Australians.
Initiatives and programs
We fund a range of national palliative care initiatives and programs. These initiatives and programs mostly focus on education, training, quality improvement and advance care planning.
We have designed these initiatives and programs to help you access and receive the best palliative care possible.
Our main initiatives are:
- Greater Choice for At Home Palliative Care measure
- Comprehensive Palliative Care in Aged Care measure
- ELDAC: End of life directions for aged care

Upcoming projects include a tailored education and training suite to support palliative care service delivery for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.
Research
GP Best Practice Research Project
In 2016 we did a study into how GPs provide palliative care and how much they know about it. The study found that GPs are interested in learning more about palliative care.
Findings from this research will help us develop policy in the future.
