A positive result from a COVID-19 test will confirm you have the virus.
What to do if you test positive
If you have serious symptoms – such as severe shortness of breath or chest pain – call 000 immediately
If you test positive for COVID-19 you should:
- stay at home until your symptoms are gone
- manage and treat your symptoms
- monitor your symptoms – if your symptoms worsen, see your doctor
- see your doctor for oral treatments if you are in a high-risk group
- follow the advice of your state or territory health agency.

If you leave home
If you must leave your home:
- avoid people in high-risk groups and settings
- wear a face mask
- keep physical distance from others
- practise good hand and respiratory hygiene.
Protecting others you live with
You can protect those you live with by:
- wearing a face mask in shared areas of the house
- sleeping separately
- using a separate bathroom, if that’s possible
- staying in an isolated area of the house
- practising good hand and respiratory hygiene.
