Aged care workforce data collections

We collect data to gain a better understanding of the aged care workforce. This allows us to work with aged care providers and workers to develop policy that addresses challenges in the sector.

Aged Care Provider Workforce Survey

Data collection for the Aged Care Provider Workforce Survey 2023 is now complete.

The survey collected data from a representative sample of aged care services delivering:

  • residential aged care
  • in-home care
  • Multi-Purpose Services (MPS)
  • the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program (NATSIFACP).

It is expected that data will be publicly available in mid-2024 through a desktop facility on the AIHW GEN Aged Care Data website and a report on findings. Enquiries can be directed to Aged Care Provider Workforce Survey.

The Aged Care Provider Workforce Survey has replaced the Aged Care Workforce Census.

Aged Care Worker Survey

An Aged Care Worker Survey is planned for 2024. This survey will build on findings from the Aged Care Provider Workforce Survey to:

  • address current data limitations and knowledge gaps
  • strengthen data on workforce demographics, employment arrangements, skills and training
  • collate information on workforce attraction, retention and satisfaction.
