The COVID-19 vaccination advice for pregnant women has recently changed.
Because pregnant women are at a higher risk of severe disease from COVID-19, it's recommended that they are offered the vaccine at any stage of their pregnancy. COVID-19 vaccines train your body to develop an immune response, teaching it how to fight the virus, ensuring you don't get seriously sick from COVID-19.
The latest information shows that the vaccine may offer some protection for your baby as well. If you're breastfeeding, you can receive a COVID-19 vaccination at any time, and you don't need to stop breastfeeding after vaccination.
If you have any questions, either about the vaccine when you're pregnant or if you're trying to fall pregnant, talk to your local healthcare worker or visit health.gov.au.
