Professor Deborah Parker, Training Provider, End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC): We see palliative and end of life care as core business for staff who are working in residential aged care and the home care space.

There's actually quite a lot to learn, but care for somebody at the end of their life is critically important to get right. And so I think having training is a is a must.

Tennessee Batty, Personal Care Worker: Training is definitely very important. It takes away the taboo of it all. We can ask the questions, we can have the questions answered that we don't often know about.

Christine Denton, Personal Care Worker: It'd be really beneficial for aged care workers to undertake palliative care training so that they are aware of what part we can play to ensure that the best care is provided.

Professor Jennifer Tieman, Training Provider, CareSearch and PalliAGED: The day-to-day care and engagement aged care staff have with their clients can help them to achieve a better quality of life and that comes through learning skills which they can learn through training, in terms of how do we communicate, how can we help people maintain function and autonomy.

So there's a wide range of both technical symptom management, but also more the practices that will support quality of life right until the end of life.

Christine Denton, Personal Care Worker: There's so much more to our care that you just won't fully grasp and understand without the additional training.

It's helped me to feel really confident and really just proud to take care of people as they approach the end of life and in their final moments, being able to be a part of that, it's it's a privilege, it's amazing.
