Tobacco control enforcement policy

We investigate and enforce the laws relating to tobacco products. This policy outlines the principles we use to guide our decisions and actions in enforcing these laws.

This policy outlines the principles we use to guide our actions and decisions:

  • proportionality – the action we take is proportional to the seriousness of the non-compliance
  • transparency – we publish information on how to comply with the legislation
  • consistency – we make sure our decisions and actions are consistent
  • confidentiality – we make sure when investigating complaints to keep our information confidential
  • timeliness – we investigate efficiently so as to minimise costs and delays.

It also describes the range of enforcement options and what they involve.
