This analysis was done by Dr Tasneem Chipty of Analysis Group, Inc., an economic and business consultant.
The Tobacco Plain Packaging Act 2011 (TPP Act) requires tobacco companies to use plain packaging and graphic health warnings instead of branded packaging. Dr Chipty analysed smoking-related data from the Roy Morgan Single Source Survey covering January 2001 to September 2015.
She found that there was a statistically significant decline in smoking rates and the report states that the TPP Act is having its intended effect.
