The ‘Private Health Insurance classification of MBS items 1 March 2022’ is derived from the MBS XML Data file ‘MBS‑XML‑220301’ released on 22 December 2021, and includes 1 March 2022 changes which implement the Government’s response to recommendations from the MBS Review Taskforce (The Taskforce) regarding pain management, anaesthesia, gynaecological and midwifery services. There will also be a further update prior to 1 March 2022 to reflect XML changes to include temporarily reinstated telehealth and telephone services, updated rapid antigen testing, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation services and a fee alignment for GP and OMP telehealth and telephone services.

Update 3 March 2022: The ’Private Health Insurance classification of MBS items 1 March 2022 – as at 3 March 2022’ is derived from the MBS XML file of 25 February 2022 and replaces the 25 January 2022 PHI Spreadsheet. It contains additional MBS items from the ‘MBS-XML-220301v3.Revised’ file to include two new items for Extracorporeal Photopheresis for Chronic Graft Versus Host Disease. Please note, the ‘MBS-XML-220301v2.Revised’ released on 11 February 2022 which included four new telehealth items for remote programming of auditory implants and sound processors temporarily reinstated telehealth and telephone services and updated rapid antigen testing, did not have an impact on the existing PHI minimum benefit assignments. Therefore, no updates were made to 25 January 2022 PHI Spreadsheet.
PHI Spreadsheets are only updated when MBS item changes result in changes to PHI clinical categorisations and procedure type classifications. Not all MBS XML Data File releases result in PHI Spreadsheet updates.
