We commissioned Terri Janke and Company (TJC) to prepare this issues paper on the legal, ethical and social issues surrounding the collection and use of Indigenous health genomic material, knowledge, and data. The paper identifies key issues surrounding ownership, data sovereignty, discrimination, and governance within the use of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples genomic information. A critical assessment of these issues highlight important opportunities for improvement and in turn will assist policy and law makers to work towards better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
