Healthy mouths, healthy lives – Australia’s National Oral Health Plan 2015–2024

The National Oral Health Plan 2015–2024 has 2 national goals. Firstly, to improve the oral health status of Australians by reducing the incidence, prevalence and effects of oral disease. And secondly to reduce inequalities in oral health status across the Australian population.

The plan identifies 6 foundation areas for action:

  1. oral health promotion
  2. access
  3. systems alignment and integration
  4. safety and quality
  5. workforce
  6. research and evaluation.

Priority populations identified are:

  • people who are socially disadvantaged or on low incomes
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • people living in regional and remote areas
  • people with additional or specialised health care needs.
