What has been achieved to date
All governments remain committed to working together to progress this recommendation.
Worker Screening Units, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission) and the Commonwealth Department of Health, Disability and Ageing have identified and prioritised risk-related information from relevant bodies, including from other safeguarding and complaint handling bodies for future inclusion in information sharing arrangements.
Collaboration on the development of a roadmap for implementation is being undertaken with the Attorney-General's Department, National Office for Child Safety (NOCS) and Working With Children Check units to leverage opportunities across both the NDIS Worker Screening and Working with Children checks.
What the Disability Royal Commission said in the final report
As part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme worker screening review, the Australian Government, and state and territory governments, should consider the adequacy of information sharing arrangements with regard to:
a) the ability of worker screening units to obtain relevant risk-related information from bodies outside of their operating jurisdiction to inform their assessments
b) the ability of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and worker screening units to obtain and share relevant risk-related information (such as misconduct and disciplinary investigation outcomes) held by other safeguarding and complaint handling bodies to inform worker screening decisions.
