These guidelines are for persons conducting a business or undertaking (e.g. employers or managers) of bird and wildlife workers (including volunteers).
They provide general guidance on how to protect workers from avian influenza, including:
- legislative provisions, including work health and safety duties
- how avian influenza spreads and symptoms in humans
- preparing for an outbreak of avian influenza
- protecting workers’ health during an outbreak of avian influenza
- infection prevention and control precautions, including hygiene practices and personal protective equipment recommendations
- what to do if a worker is exposed to avian influenza and becomes sick.
