In 2022, governments across Australia eased COVID-19 pandemic-related community and border control measures. As social interactions increased, the rate of some common vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), especially influenza, also grew. There were also significant outbreaks of 2 newly emerged diseases, Japanese encephalitis (JE) and mpox (formerly known as monkeypox). The responses to these new Communicable Disease Incidents of National Significance (CDINS) included establishing vaccination programs against these diseases.
