This request provides information relating to:

  • The most recent assessment, analysis and/or advice held by the Department in relation to the possible national scale, extent and incidence of silicosis disease cases amongst stonemasons and related workers in associated industries from exposure to silica dust.
  • The most recent assessment, analysis and/or advice held by the Department in relation to the international scale, extent and incidence of silicosis disease cases amongst stone masons and related workers in associated industries from exposure to silica dust as experienced in countries such as Israel and in European countries such as Italy and Spain.
  • The most recent assessment, analysis and/or advice held by the Department in relation to whether ongoing cutting of artificial stone products with high silica content should be banned or restricted from sale due to the ongoing safety risk.
  • Any correspondence, documents, submissions and meeting minutes held by the Department from Caesarstone Australia and its related entities about its artificial stone products and the manufactured stone industry and ongoing health and safety concerns.
  • Any correspondence, documents, submissions and meeting minutes held by the Department from the Australian Stone Advisory Association about its artificial stone products and the manufactured stone industry and ongoing health and safety concerns.
