Free online assessment tools for consumers

  • The CogDrisk is a quick, online tool that gives a personalised assessment of your risk of developing dementia and recommends ways to reduce your risk. 
  • Dementia Australia’s BrainTrack app tracks your cognition over time. Games and challenges on the app give you data that you can share with your GP.
  • The AUSDRISK tool estimates your risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the next 5 years – a known dementia risk factor.
  • The Stroke Foundation has a tool to assess stroke risk – a risk factor for cognitive impairment and dementia.

Letter to all Australians turning 50

The Australian Government sent a letter in July 2026 to all Australians who turned 50 between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026 to raise awareness of practical steps that can reduce dementia risk.

Resources for health professionals

The tools under ‘consumers resources’ can help healthcare providers understand their patients’ dementia risk. The resources below are designed to support GPs and other healthcare workers. 

  • The RACGP Red Book includes risk reduction interventions for cognitive decline and dementia.
  • Dementia Training Australia provides free dementia training, education and resources for health and aged care workers, including CPD. 
  • The Dementia in Practice podcast for GPs, delivered by GPs is available through Dementia Training Australia.
  • Australia's first Clinical guidelines for dementia were published in 2016. Updated guidelines are currently being developed and are expected to be published late 2026.

  • The Caring for Spirit project provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander online dementia education and resources. 
  • The Let's CHAT Dementia in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities research project has developed resources for health professionals working in primary care.
