Monash University’s Women’s Health Research Program provides an accessible toolkit to help you care for women at midlife. It reflects current best practice for managing the phases of menopause.

Explore a range of free, foundational and accredited courses designed to enhance your confidence and knowledge in patient-centred menopause management.

Jean Hailes for Women’s Health Menopause Education Program

This program offers 2 free menopause courses for nurses, midwives and general practitioners, developed by Jean Hailes in partnership with the Australasian Menopause Society.

  • Managing menopause in general practice – If you’re a GP, this 2-hour course (accredited by RACGP and ACCRRM) is designed to help you stay up to date with the latest evidence on the management of menopause and feel confident when providing patient-centred care.
  • Understanding Menopause for Nurses and Midwives – If you’re a nurse or midwife, this 1-hour course (endorsed by APNA and ACN) offers practical strategies to support patients effectively during menopause. 

There are also webinars available on topics related to menopause including:

  • Menopause basics
  • Mental health and menopause 
  • Musculoskeletal conditions.

Australasian Menopause Society e-learning

These evidence-based courses provide guidance in managing women’s midlife health issues, developed in response to requests from GPs.

Menopause and perimenopause health assessment

Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items are available to support patients experiencing perimenopause and menopause. Medical professionals should use the MBS item that best describes the service provided.

The MBS includes specific items for menopause and perimenopause health assessments. These can be delivered by general practitioners and prescribed medical practitioners to give patients experiencing premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), early menopause, perimenopause and menopause appropriate care and symptom management.

Resources

The Australasian Menopause Society provides reliable, evidence-based information sheets on managing women’s health during midlife and menopause. Topics range from management of menopause-related symptoms to MHT dosing and more complex clinical scenarios. These are designed to help you stay up to date with best clinical practice and deliver appropriate menopause care. 

Quality Use of Medicines

The Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) Alliance QHUB website provides access to resources, webinars and other educational activities, aimed at increasing professional knowledge and understanding of the evidence-based management of menopause symptoms. The QHUB provides a number of resources including a Clinical Guide for health professionals, and a Decision Aid to support shared decision-making for clinicians and their patients.
