Helping younger people to move out of aged care
From 1 November, the new Aged Care Act will limit entry to Australian Government-funded aged care services to people with care needs who are either:
- aged 65 years or over
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and aged 50 to 64 years
- homeless or at risk of homelessness and aged 50 to 64 years
- already living in an aged care home or accessing aged care services.
The Younger people in residential aged care (YPIRAC) toolkit helps younger people living in aged care homes to understand their housing and support options.
Analysis of younger people living in residential aged care
We commissioned Ipsos Public Affairs to complete a detailed analysis of younger people living in residential aged care facilities and the reasons why they were living there. This is part of the Government's work to support younger people to move to age-appropriate accommodation and supports.
Principles and guidelines
The document provides guidance to all parties who have roles and responsibilities over younger people seeking to access aged care services.
