National Dementia Support Program (NDSP)

The NDSP is an Australian Government initiative to fund information, education programs, services and resources.

About the program

Initiatives funded under the NDSP aim to:

  • improve awareness and understanding about dementia
  • empower people living with dementia, and their carers and families, to make informed decisions about the support services they access.

If you're looking for information about living with or caring for someone with dementia, visit Dementia Australia.

Why it is important

By 2030, up to 550,000 people are expected to be living with dementia.

The NDSP is an Australian Government-funded program that directly supports people living with dementia and their families and carers.

The NDSP aims to:

  • help people living with dementia and their carers and families understand more about dementia
  • connect people living with dementia, their families and carers with services that support them to self-manage and live well with dementia for as long as possible
  • enable the health and aged care sectors to better respond to increased rates of dementia in the community.

Who we work with

The NDSP is delivered by Dementia Australia and is comprised of the following elements:

  • information and foundational supports
  • early intervention supports
  • awareness and stigma reduction
  • targeted supports for vulnerable groups
  • assistance to Primary Health Networks in the development of consumer-focused resources detailing local post-diagnostic support pathways.

The Department of Health and Aged Care funds the program through the Dementia and Aged Care Services Fund.

The NDSP is currently under way.
