A new Stream 2 grant opportunity, National CQR Automation and Innovation Capacity Building Grant, is now open on Grant Connect. Applications close 16 January 2025.
About the program
Clinical quality registries (CQRs) are organisations that monitor the quality of health care by collecting information from patients who undergo certain medical procedures.
The program will support CQRs to:
- track the safety and performance of treatments and devices
- improve performance reporting for clinicians and hospitals.
It will also support the implementation of the National Strategy for Clinical Quality Registries and Virtual Registries 2020–2030.
Who we work with
We will work with the:
- CQR sector, including clinicians and consumers
- states and territories
- Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care.
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care has released the revised Australian Framework for Clinical Quality Registries (2024) and hosts the Australian Register of Clinical Registries.
Funding
The 4-year program will fund CQRs in 3 ways:
1. Funding support for existing national CQRs
Ten existing national CQRs will continue to receive funding support:
- Australasian Pelvic Floor Procedure Registry
- Australasian Shunt Registry
- Australia New Zealand Trauma Registry
- Australian and New Zealand Hip Fracture Registry
- Australian Breast Device Registry
- Australian Cystic Fibrosis Data Registry
- Australian Dementia Network Registry
- Australian Spine Registry
- Australian Diabetes Clinical Quality Registry
- National Cardiac Registry.
2. New funding streams for national CQRs
Stream 1
Stream 1 will provide funding support for a small number of additional high-priority, national CQRs. These will be selected through a competitive application process on AusTender.
The initial Stream 1 opportunity closed in May 2024. We are pleased to announce that 2 national CQRs were successful in that round:
We intend to advertise a second Stream1 opportunity in the first quarter of 2025.
Stream 2
Stream 2 will provide grant funding for short-term projects that help boost CQR capacity.
A new Stream 2 grant opportunity, National CQR Automation and Innovation Capacity Building Grant, is now open on Grant Connect. Applications close 16 January 2025.
3. Strategy activities
The program will fund selected activities that support the continued implementation of the National Strategy for Clinical Quality Registries and Virtual Registries 2020–2030.
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care recently started work to:
- update the Prioritised list of clinical domains for clinical quality registry development
- modernise the Australian Register of Clinical Registries.
Work is also in progress to:
- continue the CQR Communication and Collaboration Hub
- develop a Good CQR Best Practice Guide
- advance best practice clinician and PROMs reporting.
Read our National CQR Program communique for more details.
