Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) 10-year Investment Plan

The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) 10-year Investment Plan sets out the Australian Government’s plans for MRFF funding. It continues our support for lifesaving medical research, job creation, local industry and growing Australia’s reputation as a world leader in medical research.

About the MRFF 2nd 10-year Investment Plan

The Australian Government has announced the $6.3 billion MRFF 2nd 10-year Investment Plan (2022-23 to 2031-32). It provides funding for 21 initiatives to support lifesaving research, job creation, local industry, and growing Australia’s reputation as a world leader in medical research.

The MRFF 2nd 10-year Investment Plan builds on investments made through the MRFF 1st 10-year Investment Plan. This will update and refine existing programs, and provide targeted investments in new and emerging health priorities. It provides flexibility for the MRFF to continue to be responsive to emerging health challenges while maintaining focus on addressing key health challenges.

The MRFF 2nd 10-year Investment Plan carries forward all of the funding allocated for the years from 2022-23 to 2027-28 in the MRFF 1st 10-year Investment Plan (2018-19 to 2027-28), as well as committing to additional expenditure of $3.1 billion.

The MRFF 2nd 10-year Investment Plan provides the mechanism for implementing the current Australian Medical Research and Innovation Strategy and the related Priorities. Together, these documents support decision-making on how to use MRFF funds.

About the MRFF 1st 10-year Investment Plan

Under the 2019-20 Budget, the Australian Government committed $5.1 billion from 2018-19 to 2027-28 in the MRFF 1st 10-year Investment Plan.
