Free Interpreting Services (FIS) for allied health professionals

We are investing $1.995 million from 2022–2026 to make interpreting services available to eligible allied health services. This funding will improve access to allied health services.

About the service

Eligible privately practicing allied health professionals can access the Australian Government’s Free Interpreting Services (FIS).  These services support targeted populations with low English proficiency.

Allied health professionals working in primary care can apply for access on the TIS National website.

Access to the FIS is available in 32 Local Government Areas with low English proficiency.

The Department of Home Affairs’ (DHA) Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) is delivering the program. The Department of Health and Aged Care is funding it.

We will evaluate this initial rollout by 30 June 2026.
