CHSP and the aged care reforms

The Aged Care Act 2024 (the Act) sets out the way CHSP services are regulated and delivered. CHSP registered providers must be compliant with their requirements and obligations under the Act. 

You can only deliver government-subsidised CHSP services to people who have been assessed as eligible for CHSP services through an aged care assessment. This includes clients who were grandfathered under the CHSP from previous programs. 

CHSP funding extension

The CHSP is currently funded from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2027. 

The CHSP has been extended for another two years to 30 June 2029. 

Information about the 2027-29 funding agreement extension will be available shortly. 

CHSP 2025–27 Manual

The CHSP 2025-27 Manual provides an overview of the program, provider responsibilities, funding and recent program changes.

DEX reporting changes

As part of the aged care reforms, changes to the Data Exchange reporting system have been implemented in stages: 

Stage 1

From 1 July 2025:  DEX reporting requirements changed to ensure services align to the new CHSP service list and improve visibility of services being accessed by clients. 

Stage 2

From January 2026: All My Aged Care ID information, collected by providers in their own systems during Stage 1, must be reported into the My Aged Care ID fields in the client record in DEX. 

Stage 3

From 11 August 2026: Additional metrics have been introduced to help the department better understand the hidden costs of CHSP service delivery.

Specialised support services (SSS)

Changes have been made to reduce duplication of services across the aged care system and ensure the grants align with the Act.  

Specialised support services (SSS) have been realigned to other service types under the new Aged Care Service List, such as allied health and therapy services, social support and community engagement, nursing or personal care. Unit pricing corresponds to the newly mapped service. 

SSS provides specialised clinical vision support services to clients living at home who require orthoptic services and vision orientation and mobility support. 

The SSS consultation was completed in December 2025.

Service Agreements, Provision of Information and Care and Services Plan guidance documents

The CHSP Service Agreement and Care and Services Plan between providers and clients reflects important requirements of the new Act and Rules.
