About the measure
The Australian Government announced the Aged Care System Navigator measure in the 2018–19 Budget. It is trialling different models to help people understand and engage with the aged care system.
In response to the Aged Care Royal Commission, the Australian Government committed $7 million through the 2021-22 Budget to extend the Aged Care System Navigator trial. The trials will continue until 31 December 2022 when the longer-term care finders program and navigation supports for First Nations people have both begun.
Why it is important
The measure will help people to:
- understand what aged care services are available to meet their needs
- connect with My Aged Care
- choose and access aged care services
The measure will focus on helping people who:
- face barriers to accessing aged care
- are vulnerable or isolated.
Goals
The extension trials provided people with individual, face-to-face support from a qualified, experienced and professional workforce.
Evaluations of the Aged Care System Navigator trials have informed the new care finder program.
