Aged care workforce data collections

We collect data to gain a better understanding of the aged care workforce. This allows us to work with aged care providers and workers to develop policy that addresses challenges in the sector.

Aged Care Provider Workforce Survey 2026

The Aged Care Provider Workforce Survey 2026 is now open, closing on 27 March 2026. The survey applies only to aged care services that have been selected to participate in this survey.

The survey collects information on workforce size and composition from:

  • residential aged care services
  • the Support at Home program
  • the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)
  • Multi-Purpose Services (MPS)
  • the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program (NATSIFAC).

Data from this survey will be published through the AIHW website in 2027.

Aged Care Worker Survey

The Aged Care Worker Survey 2024 builds on findings from the Aged Care Provider Workforce Survey to:

  • address current data limitations and knowledge gaps
  • strengthen data on workforce demographics, employment arrangements, skills and training
  • collate information on workforce attraction, retention and satisfaction.

Data from this survey has been published in the Aged Care Worker Survey 2024 report. A summary of the report highlighting key findings is available.
