Today, 3 June, marks World Bicycle Day, which is a celebration of the humble bike. A simple, affordable, environmentally friendly and sustainable mode of transport that has been in use for over 200 years. The day brings together riders from all walks of life and cycling disciplines.

The day also celebrates the tremendous health benefits for all age groups. Cycling supports healthier lifestyles, increased fitness, muscle strength, flexibility and reduced stress. With that in mind, it’s no surprise over 40% of Australians ride a bike every year! (Source: National Walking and Cycling Participation Survey 2021).

In September, Australia will be the focus of the cycling world. The 2022 UCI Road World Championships – one of the Triple Crown of Cycling events – is heading to Wollongong. This event is watched by over 300 million viewers worldwide.

Wollongong is the only city in the Southern Hemisphere named a UCI Bike City. It will be only the second time Australians will witness the world’s best cyclists racing for the famous rainbow jersey in their own backyard.

This world-class event is free to attend, so come along to see the 2022 UCI Road World Championships from 18 September to 25 September 2022.
