The Amendment Rules make consequential amendments to the Private Health Insurance (Complying Product) Rules 2015 and Private Health Insurance (Accreditation) Rules 2011 to replace the term ‘Podiatric surgeon’ with ‘Surgical podiatrist’ and amendments to the definition of ‘National Law’.
In 2025 the Podiatry Board of Australia recommended that the title ‘podiatric surgeon’ be changed to ‘surgical podiatrist’. This recommendation was accepted by Health Ministers’, with the title change to take effect from 1 October 2026.
The reference to the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (WA) Act 2010 (WA) is redundant as that Act was repealed by the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Application Act 2024 (WA). This change is a result of that Act applying the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law set out in the Schedule to the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009 (Qld) (with modifications) as a law of Western Australia commencing 1 October 2026.
The Amendment Rules were registered on 24 September 2026 on the Federal Register of Legislation and commence from 1 October 2026. Further details on the Amendment Rules can be found in the accompanying Explanatory Statement.
