Nursing home type patient accommodation benefit and contribution rates

Each year on 20 March, 1 July, and 20 September, the Department of Health reviews and adjusts nursing home type patient accommodation rates in line with Commonwealth Adult Pension and Rental Assistance Rates adjustments made by Department of Social Services.

The Department of Social Services has advised there is no change to the Commonwealth Adult Pension and Rental Assistance Rates in September 2020.

As a result the Department of Health will not make changes to the Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirements) Rules 2011 (the Benefit Requirements Rules) or the Private Health Insurance (Complying Product) Rules 2015 (the Complying Product Rules).

Therefore, there will be no changes to either the:

  • minimum accommodation benefits payable by private health insurers per night for privately insured nursing home type patients accommodated in private hospitals nationally and public hospitals in all jurisdictions (Benefit Requirements Rules)
  • daily patient contribution payable by nursing home type patients towards the costs of their accommodation at private hospitals nationally and at public hospitals in all jurisdictions (Complying Product Rules).
