PHI 35/25 Release of updated AR-DRG tables for HCP and PHDB Annual Reports

The AR-DRG tables in previous Hospital Casemix Protocol (HCP) and Private Hospital Data Bureau (PHDB) Annual Reports have been updated on the Department of Health and Aged Care website. Statistics are presented for the time period 2019–20 to 2022–23 in excel format.

Release of updated AR-DRG tables: 2019-20 to 2022-23 HCP and PHDB Annual Reports

The Department recently released changes to the AR-DRG tables in the preliminary 2023-24 Hospital Casemix Protocol (HCP) and Private Hospital Data Bureau (PHDB) Annual Reports to include reporting of charges and benefits without Medical Device or Human Tissue Product [(MDHT) - formerly prostheses] amounts.

To enable comparisons with previously released Annual Reports, the Department has updated the AR-DRG tables for the financial years 2019-20 to 2022-23.

Hospital Casemix Protocol Annual Report – Table 10

The updated HCP annual report Table 10 includes four additional columns: 

  • ‘Average overall charge (excluding MDHT - formerly prostheses) per separation ($)’
  • ‘Average overall benefit (excluding MDHT - formerly prostheses) per separation ($)’
  • ‘Average hospital charge (excluding MDHT - formerly prostheses) per separation ($)’ 
  • ‘Average hospital benefit (excluding MDHT - formerly prostheses) per separation ($)’. 

The updated AR-DRG tables for the HCP Annual Reports from 2019-20 to 2022-23 are available to download online.

Private Hospital Data Bureau Annual Report – Table 7

The updated PHDB annual report Table 7 includes one additional column:

  • ‘Average hospital charge (excluding MDHT - formerly prostheses) per separation ($)’

The updated AR-DRG tables for the PHDB Annual Reports from 2019-20 to 2022-23 are available to download online.

Additional Information

Rounding has been applied to the separation and patient day counts to mitigate the risk of reidentification using other published tables attributable to small changes in the underlying datasets. Rounding has not been applied to financial information.
