Private health insurance clinical category and procedure type updates following Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item changes from 1 March 2025.

The Private Health Insurance Legislation Amendment Rules (No. 3) 2025 (the Amendment Rules) make consequential changes to the Private Health Insurance (Complying Product) Rules 2011 and Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirement) Rules 2011. These reflect changes commencing from 1 March 2025 to MBS items in the General Medical Services Table (GMST), Pathology Services Table (PST) and Diagnostic Imaging Services Table (DIST), and those made by reason of Ministerial Determination under subsection 3C(1) of the Health Insurance Act 1973.

The Amendment Rules were registered on 25 February 2025 on the Federal Register of Legislation and commence from 1 March 2025. Further details on the Amendment Rules can be found in the accompanying Explanatory Statement.
