$50 million investment in new models of primary care

The Australian Government has announced a $50 million research initiative to drive innovation in primary care. Funding is from the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).

A new expert advisory panel will develop a MRFF Primary Health Research Plan in 2023. The first research projects will be funded from July 2024. Funding will target 3 areas:

  • identifying and evaluating models of primary care provided by GPs and other health professionals
  • applying research findings in primary care settings
  • better use of data and digital technology to evaluate models of primary care and support health system planning.
