$16.9 million for medical research and technology innovations

The Australian Government will invest $16.9 million to support the transition of 15 cutting-edge projects into clinical practice. Funding is from the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).

The MRFF’s Medical Research Commercialisation initiative will provide:

  • $6.7 million for 9 projects targeting diabetes and cardiovascular disease, under the Targeted Translation Research Accelerator program
  • $7.2 million for 5 projects developing new medical technology such as a ‘next generation’ condom, under the Clinical Translation and Commercialisation Medtech program.

The Genomics Health Futures Mission will provide $3 million to support the genomic sequencing of newborn babies.
