Legislation to cut red tape for GPs now in force

Legislation to cut red tape and simplify recognition of General Practitioners (GPs) as specialists, which streamlines access to higher Medicare rebates for patients is now in force.

Under the new arrangements, GPs who are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) can access Medicare rebates.

Medical practitioners who are awarded Fellowship as a GP no longer need to apply to Services Australia to access Medicare rebates.
