The Australian Medical Research Advisory Board (AMRAB) develops the strategy every 5 years to guide Government decisions on MRFF investments in health and medical research.

AMRAB consulted on the 2021–2026 strategy and related priorities between 20 September 2021 and 11 October 2021.

AMRAB heard from 214 stakeholders and received over 200 written submissions. AMRAB also received feedback from a virtual roundtable session with 25 stakeholders.

AMRAB have also developed a draft update of the Australian Medical Research and Innovation Priorities to align with the new strategy. These priorities will remain as a draft until the Australian Medical Research and Innovation Priorities 2020-2022 cease to have effect. The timing of their registration depends on the outcomes of the Investment Funds Legislation Amendment Bill 2021 (IFLAB), which proposes changes to the MRFF Act 2015.
