The Morrison Government is providing $900,000 to Family Drug Support Australia so it can continue providing a free 24-hour support line for families dealing with drug issues.
Today is International Family Drug Support Day — a day which recognises the effects on families who are caring for a family member experiencing problematic use of drugs or alcohol.
International Family Drug Support Day gives everyone a chance to show their support to families caring for a loved one experiencing harm from drugs or alcohol, helping to reinforce that there should be no stigma or shame for these families.
The funding announced today will help Family Drug Support to continue providing a 24-hour national toll free telephone service for people who need advice, information or assistance.
It will help to enhance Family Drug Support’s mobile and online systems and support the training of the organisation’s dedicated volunteers.
Our Government is committed to reducing the impacts of drug and alcohol misuse in the community.
We have committed more than $800 million over four years through the Drug and Alcohol program. This includes a commitment to funding drug and alcohol treatment services and prevention activities.
Today’s announcement is in addition to funding of close to $2 million for the Family Drug Support’s ‘Bridging the Divide’ program.
The Morrison Government’s strong economic management ensures the continued record investment of funding into vital health initiatives including alcohol and drug support, life-saving medicines, Medicare, mental health and hospitals.
