The Albanese Government is helping older people in rural and remote communities stay closer to their family and friends by providing more residential care places.
From today, Multi-Purpose Service (MPS) program providers can apply for more places to either expand an existing MPS or set up a new one.
The MPS program is a joint initiative of the Albanese Government, and state and territory governments. It provides integrated health and aged care services to rural and remote communities that cannot support a separate aged care home and hospital.
Up to 100 additional residential care places are now available for allocation to providers by the Department of Health and Aged Care, through a competitive application process.
The extra 100 places will mean more older people living in rural and remote locations can access residential aged care through a local MPS in their own community.
There are currently 3,293 residential care places funded by the Commonwealth, with 29 providers delivering MPS services at 183 sites across Australia.
Applications close on 25 October 2024.
