Reviews of health technology assessment processes and policies
We regularly review health technology assessment processes to make them more efficient and consistent.
Purpose of reviews
We review our health technology assessment (HTA) processes to make sure they are working as expected.
Our reviews look at:
- how efficient our HTA processes are
- whether we can streamline processes further
- how we can improve their design and delivery.
Work in progress
We are working on a major multi-year reform to our HTA processes. These reforms will improve the capability of our systems and help us address future needs.
Health technology assessment review
As part of our strategic agreement with Medicines Australia (2022–2027), we agreed to support an independent review of HTA policy and methods. This will also look at co-designing a better consumer engagement process.
Health Products Portal
We are developing the Health Products Portal to provide a single digital channel for the pharmaceutical industry to interact with us about regulated and reimbursed health-related products and services.
Prostheses List reforms
We are modernising and improving the Prostheses List. Read more about our Prostheses List reforms and reviews.
Review of the National Medicines Policy
Our review of the National Medicines Policy is considering issues related to health technologies.
We completed a major Review of Health Technology Assessment in Australia in 2009. This resulted in a more coordinated approach to how we assess health technologies. Our current reviews build on this process.
