Hi, I'm Dr Andrew Rochford, practicing doctor for nearly 20 years. I've partnered with the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, a free Australian Government program that aims to eliminate bowel cancer deaths through early detection.
With a strong family history of bowel cancer, I know all too well the critical importance of early detection. Bowel cancer is common. However, the good news is eligible Australians aged 50 to 74 are sent this free test kit every two years with the purpose of detecting early signs of bowel cancer and if found early over 90% of bowel cancers can be treated successfully.
That's why it's important to do the test. It's time to get behind it. Not enough of those eligible are doing the test, so we're hitting the road. Travelling from Darwin to Dubbo, Katherine to Cairns, Brisbane to Beaudesert and Port Macquarie to Penrith, to give your communities life-saving information on this free program.
If you see the community event trailer on the road, come and say hello and find out how this simple and free test is saving lives. So, if you're aged 50 to 74 complete the test when it's sent to you every two years, and if you're 45 to 49 you can now request a free kit yourself through the National Cancer Screening Register.
