Viral haemorrhagic fevers are a group of rare but potentially life-threatening illnesses that are caused by different viruses. Dengue fever is the only viral haemorrhagic fever known to occur in Australia.

Surveillance and reporting

Viral haemorrhagic fever is a nationally notifiable disease

We monitor cases through the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS).
