The Australian Government established the steering group in October 2019 to provide independent expert advice to guide:
- the development of the 10 year plan for primary health care reform
- implementation of voluntary patient registration.
The Steering Group was co-chaired by Dr Steve Hambleton and Dr Walid Jammal, and included expert representatives from these groups:
- allied health
- mental health
- rural and remote health
- practice management organisations
- state and territory governments.
The steering group held 20 meetings. It completed its work by providing recommendations to the Minister for Health and Aged Care in September 2021.
