Climate and Health Expert Advisory Group (CHEAG)

CHEAG provides advice to the Australian Government to support delivery of the National Health and Climate Strategy.

Role

CHEAG was formed in July 2024 to support delivery of the National Health and Climate Strategy.

The role and function of CHEAG is to:

  • provide strategic and evidence-based advice on climate change and health to support delivery of the strategy and identify priorities for potential policy and regulation
  • review and advise on updates from the government on strategy delivery, including outlines of progress on delivery, risks and issues
  • identify stakeholders for consultation or involvement in strategy delivery.

Related committees or groups

CHEAG is an important component of governance for the National Health and Climate Strategy.

CHEAG, along with the State and Territory Climate and Health Working Group, reports to the National Climate and Health Program Board. The program board consists of senior staff from a range of government agencies with an interest in climate and health. The State and Territory Climate and Health Working Group consists of climate and health policy leads from state and territory governments.
