The Aged Care Taskforce:
- reviewed funding arrangements for aged care
- developed options for a system that is fair and equitable for everyone in Australia
- built on Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety recommendations.
To review aged care funding arrangements, the taskforce focused on:
- supporting a sustainable system
- equity for older people needing aged care now and into the future
- making innovation the sector default
- enhancing the elements of the system that Australians value, including putting people using aged care at the centre of the funding arrangements.

The taskforce gave their final report to government in December 2023.

Consultations
Taskforce members consulted widely across Australia with:
- older people, carers and families
- health professionals
- providers
- peak organisations
- banks
- superannuation funds.
This included opportunity to provide feedback on the draft Aged Care Funding Principles through the Aged Care Engagement Hub in August 2023.
The taskforce received feedback through:
- 180 submissions
- 11 roundtables and 12 in-person forums
- an online survey
- targeted consultation.
This provided the members with an understanding of key issues related to aged care funding arrangements.

Consumer contribution report
Read a report by Kantar Public on research into consumer contribution to aged care services. This research paper was compiled by the independent market research firm, Kantar Public, on behalf of the Department of Health and Aged Care.
