When this privacy notice applies
This privacy notice applies to the Risk Based Targeting and Information Sharing (RBTIS) tool.
This notice explains how we (the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care) manage personal information to meet our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Information we collect
We collect personal information about:
- aged care service providers and their staff
- people receiving Australian Government–subsidised aged care services.
This information is de-identified before being uploaded into the RBTIS tool.
Why we collect this information
We use this information to calculate relevant risk ratings for providers of residential and in-home aged care services. We may take regulatory action, or intervene in other ways, for service providers considered to be high-risk.
Collecting this (de-identified) information is authorised either under the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission Act 2018 or the Aged Care Act 1997, depending on the source program or system.
How we collect this information
We collect this information through administering the following systems:
- National Approved Provider System
- My Aged Care System
- Aged Care Funding Instrument
- National Screening and Assessment Form
- National Complaints and Compliance Information Management System.
Services Australia and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission also provide data to us to be uploaded into the RBTIS tool.
The personal information collected varies, depending on which system it comes from.
All personal information, such as names and addresses, is de-identified before data is uploaded to the RBTIS tool.
Who we disclose your personal information to
We will not disclose this personal information to any external parties for the purposes of calculating risk ratings using the RBTIS tool.
We are unlikely to disclose this personal information to any overseas recipients.
How we store your information
We house all the data for RBTIS within 2 data centres, located in Canberra.
